The vision of Friends of Russell Park is to see our community park at the centre of our community. So often communities lack a space where people feel safe & free to go for just a 5 minute walk up to an all-day family gathering. We are blessed, in Noel Park, to have such a space in the form of Russell Park.

However, when I moved to Noel Park estate, just over a year ago, it took me a while to find out the park was even there, let alone used by people. This may well be the experience others have had as well, or at least felt that there wasn’t much purpose of going to the park.

As the days get longer, and the need for winter coats disappears, we want to dispel such myths and show the true value to every resident in Noel Park: that spending time in Russell Park can be fun, a place to meet new people, a place to enjoy the sun, and ultimately a place to find the most basic of human desires, that of community. That is why Friends of Russell Park are holding a series of pic-nic’s in the summer months. On the first Sunday of each month, we will be gathering in the park, bringing our own food and doing everything from playing sports to celebrating the Queen’s jubilee. The dates of the pic-nic’s are as follows:

May 6th

Jun 3rd – Jubilee theme

Jul 1st

Aug 5th – Mini Olympics (informal sports games)

Sept 2nd

Even if you can only come to one or two of the dates, we would love to see you! Each pic-nic will start at 1pm and last as long as people want to stay in the park. If you have any further ideas for themes for the pic-nic’s or any questions related to Russell Park, please email:

See you in the park!
